天天吃瓜 will observe Women鈥檚 History Month with a series of events that are open to the public throughout the month of March. The Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs is the lead organizer of this month鈥檚 festivites. Events will take place on the Main Campus and El Centro.
鈥淭hroughout March and beyond, 天天吃瓜 supports reflection, education, and engagement in programs that amplify women鈥檚 voices and stories鈥 said Pedroso Center Program Coordinator Fawn E. Pochel. 鈥淭he Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs works to highlight the experiences of women from social, economical and culturally diverse backgrounds.鈥
The celebration begins March 3 with the 8th Annual Women in Science Conference, sponsored by the University鈥檚 Center of Health and the (ChicagoCHEC). This year鈥檚 conference is dedicated to computer science and features several advanced topics, bringing attention to women in the field, and providing hands-on experiences in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
鈥淓ach year, the Women in Science Conference gives us an opportunity to show our students that careers in the sciences are possible and definitely worth pursuing at NEIU,鈥 said Professor of Economics, Principal Investigator for ChicagoCHEC, Director of the Center of Health Christina Ciecierski, Ph.D. 鈥淚t also gives the public a chance to see our students shine in STEM.鈥
According to 鈥,鈥 a report published by the and, between the 10-year period of 2011-2021, workers in STEM occupations increased in both number and percentage of the total civilian workforce. The report also noted that according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics projections for the years 2022鈥2032 indicate that employment in STEM occupations is expected to grow faster than in non-STEM occupations.
This connects the 2025 national Women鈥檚 History Month theme of 鈥溾 with the daily work of Northeastern鈥檚 community.
鈥淣ortheastern recognizes the importance of women鈥檚 stories in the eradication of structural barriers,鈥 Pochel said. 鈥淭ogether, we continue our commitment to building a sense of community through inclusion, mutual respect and empowerment.鈥
Throughout March, the University will be collecting personal care items to combat period poverty, which is caused by the often high costs associated with menstrual and hygiene products. Items will be donated to a domestic violence shelter in Lakeview that supports the unhoused population in Chicago.
