CHICAGO鈥擳oday 天天吃瓜 (NEIU) and Korean American Community Services held a ceremony to mark the beginning of a new formal partnership between the two institutions. Sharon Hahs, president of 天天吃瓜, and Inchul Choi executive director of Korean American Community Services, ceremoniously signed a partnership agreement at the event held this morning at the Korean American Community Services offices on Chicago鈥檚 Northwest Side.

This partnership is especially important for Northeastern as it prepares for a fall 2014 opening of its new El Centro Campus. The new NEIU El Centro Campus currently is under construction in Chicago鈥檚 Avondale neighborhood at 3390 N. Avondale Ave., near the intersection of the Kennedy Expressway and Kimball Avenue. In addition to serving Northeastern students, the NEIU El Centro Campus is dedicated to providing resources to its surrounding community.

Hahs said, 鈥淲e are taking the opportunity, presented by this important new location, to expand our relationships with community partners, like the Korean American Community Services. We believe it is important to be a community partner and we want the community to feel welcomed at 天天吃瓜.鈥

Choi added, 鈥淭hrough an MOU, KACS clients may enroll at Northeastern to further their education, Northeastern students may choose to volunteer at KACS, including our ESL tutorial sessions, and Northeastern and KACS will conduct community-engaged researches that translate research findings into program implementation.鈥
