Student Disability Services

Support for Students with Disabilities
SDS supports students by facilitating the provisions of reasonable accommodations as determined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. SDS will seek to go beyond compliance through education, advocacy, and strong partnerships with NEIU faculty and staff.
Student Disability Services (SDS) is committed to providing students with disabilities equitable access to NEIU’s educational and co-curricular opportunities so students may fully participate in the life of the University. Student Disability Services (SDS) academic accommodations are available to students with diverse physical, learning, medical, mental health and sensory disabilities.
Student Disability Services offers supports to students to achieve their academic goals while supporting and promoting their independence. SDS is a resource to the many university departments that share the responsibility of supporting the members of NEIU’s diverse learning community.
Student Disability Services works with students and NEIU faculty and staff to deliver reasonable academic accommodations in order to create an accessible and equitable experience for all. Accommodations are issued in order to remove the barriers that hinder people with disabilities' access to the entirety of their NEU experience.
SDS provides reasonable accommodations within the following guidelines:
- Accommodations do not modify academic standards
- Accommodations do not fundamentally alter an essential element of a program or service
- Accommodations do not present a health or safety risk to others
- Accommodations do not present an undue administrative or financial burden
