The first week of the fall semester is coming to a close, and ����Թ� is starting the school year strong. The University has been awarded a major grant to fund TRIO Student Support Services programs through 2025, and an additional $10,000 has been added to the General Scholarship Fund for students. Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theatre, in residence at ����Թ�, marks its 45th season from August 2020 through July 2021. The season, titled “Zafiro Flamenco (Sapphire Flamenco): New Era, New Works, New Legacies,” will feature new partnerships, new works, virtual programs plus a new $300,000 anonymous matching grant opportunity with a total potential earnings of $1 million.

����Թ� has spent much of the summer preparing to safely reopen campus for a limited number of in-person classes. On Monday, the 2020-21 academic year will officially begin with most students and employees studying and working remotely.

This weekend, ����Թ� will host its first series of virtual Commencement ceremonies!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) has awarded ����Թ� a $275,000 grant to support its agriculture science engagement at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI). Northeastern is one of 26 institutions in the United States—and the only institution in Illinois—to receive this grant. It is Northeastern’s fourth USDA-NIFA grant and its fifth USDA grant overall.

Northeastern has received a grant to digitize the archives of alumnus and former Illinois Congressman Luis Gutiérrez. The University also received a grant for students from the Consulate General of Mexico.

The Consulate General of Mexico has awarded a $9,000 IME Becas grant to ����Թ�. This is the fifth year Northeastern has received the grant. 

����Թ� Associate Professor of Psychology Lisa Hollis-Sawyer has published her sixth book, a workbook titled “Black Belt Statistics: A Competency-Based Approach (Plus SPSS and R).”
