How to Find an Internship

Finding the right internship can seem overwhelming, but fear not! We've curated a list of strategies and resources to help you navigate the internship search process. Reach out to us with any questions at any step of the process.

  • Departmental resources: Depending on your major and its internship requirements, there may be a specific list of employers preselected by that department. Before applying for an internship, check with your academic advisor to ensure that all departmental requirements are met.

     

  • Self-assessment: Before you begin your search, take some time to reflect on your interests, skills, and career goals. What industries are you passionate about? What skills do you want to develop? Understanding your preferences and strengths will help guide your internship search.

     

  • Research internship opportunities: Explore a variety of sources to discover internship opportunities. Check out job boards specific to your field of interest, browse company websites, and explore .

     

  • Update your resume, LinkedIn, and Handshake profiles: Tailor your resume to highlight relevant experiences, skills, and accomplishments that apply to the internship role. Update your LinkedIn and Handshake profiles to reflect your current academic and professional achievements.

     

  • Attend career fairs and events: Take advantage of career fairs and networking events hosted by NEIU and industry organizations. These events provide opportunities to meet recruiters, learn about companies, and potentially secure internship interviews.
